Charlie Company Huey The Goon Platoon Banner, displaying the RAR Corps Badge, Infantry Combat Badge, Medal Bar, US Presidential Citation & the Rat emblem of the Goon Platoon
1st to 14th of July 1971, Vietnam

On the 3rd of July, 4 Platoon Bravo Company found and destroyed an unoccupied VC munitions factory. On the 9th of July, 3 Platoon Alpha Company found an old bunker system. Inside the bunker system they found an ammunition cache and an ordance factory. The engineers destroyed the lot.

We just kept wandering around the J. Occassionally when we set ambushes, we would set them off just to break up the monotony. Dogs was starting to get the shits with these Yippy ambushes. So one night after we had set up our string of claymore mines with a trip wire (Dixie, Boodgie & Woody were always playing with booby traps), Woody took off his boots and scuttled away into the jungle. Then he came walking down the track barefoot to leave tracks on the path. Just before the trip wire he dived into the jungle away from the ambush. Then he crawled around and back into the camp. Just after midnight we set off the ambush. We yelled, shot everything we had and generally tried to make it as realistic as possible. God Dogs was pissed off. He really ripped it up us. Next morning we went out to check the killing zone and showed Dogs the tracks. But he never bought it ... "Next Yippee ambush ... all you bastards are on a charge!" he roared at us. We skulked quietly back into our ambush positions with our tails between our legs. Woody was really pissed off, he had wandered around the J in the middle of the night, taking a chance on hitting the trip wire by mistake or being shot by the platoon ... and Dogs still hadn't fallen for it ... bugger it!
