On the road to the range, during the wet season, there was a large mud puddle churned up by the trucks ... led by "Butch" Collins ... The Goons went mud diving. In the full picture (click on thumbnail) you can see the Rubber Plantation in the background (Nui Dat) ... our tents were within those rubber trees. You can also see how green and lush the grass is ... it really should have been a tropical paradise. |

Dennis Tyson building the famous
Goon Platoon showers. John Insull is in the foreground.
Lt Tyson gave the Goon Platoon a list of materials
required. Within the day the materials all arrived on
site ... he asked no questions as to where they had come
from. He is fixing the last length of pipe ... we had
trouble finding this piece of kit, but Admin Company's
volleyball net support post turned out to be just the
right size .... Oh by the way the big red water tank just
behind Lt Tyson also belonged to Admin Company ... they
were kind enough to load it onto a truck for us and
deliver it ... it is one thing stealing a bloody great
tank ... it is quite another to secretly get it into your
own lines .... we had real trouble to stop from laughing
when an Admin driver pulled up alongside us as we were
wheeling the bloody thing down the road and asked ...
"You blokes want a hand?" Yeah mate, we gotta
get this bloody great thing to Charlie Company. When they
found out that it was missing, I guess he was too
embarrassed to admit to his OC that he had delivered the
stolen tank for us. Wonder if that is why they are both
smiling in the picture? In the shower block behind them
you can just see one of the old buckets that we used to
use (just to the left of John Insull's head). |
