George Edward Ackerman
George Edward Ackerman was born in Keansburg, New Jersey, on the 25th of May, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy September 14, 1943, and took his Recruit training at the Naval Training Station, Newport, Rhode Island. After further Harbor Defense training at the Naval Training Station, Fishers Island, New York, he served on several stations and ships. Included in these was his service on the USS Orvetta in 1945.
During his service, George was awarded the European Theater, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, American Theater, and Victory Medals. He was separated from service on May 26, 1946. George worked for the New England Telephone Company, and was survived by his six children at his death on June 4, 2001.
