CARMAN STUART DEBOO
IN MEMORIAM
Carman Stuart DeBoo (also known as Red, as he had red hair) was born
Mar 17, 1926 in Everett, Washington. He was the youngest child of Della
and Sidney DeBoo. He worked for a short time for Foss Tug & Barge of
Seattle as a deckhand and welder, then joined the Navy 3 days prior to his
18th birthday. His older brother Donald was in the Navy and his brother-in-
law Gene was in the Coast Guard at that time. He attended recruit training
at NTC Farragut, ID. Carman was stationed on the USS Orvetta, then as
a coxwain with one of the river boats and attained the rank of Seaman
First Class (S1c). Service following the USS Orvetta was aboard the USS
Coronis (APL-10). He was honorably discharged on 12 May 1946. He
was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, World War II Victory
Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Phillipine Liberation
Medal. Carman later married Mary Weatherill and became a carpenter, a
career he followed the rest of his life. He loved fishing and camping. In
Sept 1971 Carman passed away from cancer at the VA Hospital in Seattle,
Washington. He was 45 years old. Carman left behind a wife and 3 children,
John 23, Maureen 11 and Vernon 6.
