Obituary of Ernest "Bud" Williams, Jr.
Ernest "Bud" Williams, Jr. was born 26 November 1925 in Cherry Valley , Arkansas, the son of Ernest, Sr. and Minnie Hammonds Williams. He grew up with two sisters, Hazel and Ruby. Bud was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in Navy 10 March 1944 with land duties at the Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Illinois and with the Const. Batt's USNCTC, Williamsburg, Virginia. His sea duty was aboard the USS YMS 220 and the USS Orvetta. His overseas duty was spent in off-shore mine sweeping operations near Hong Kong and Shanghai, China. He was discharged 26 January 1946 at the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, Memphis, Tennessee. Bud was married to the former Thelma Isom and they had three children: Ernest Wayne; Shirley Ann and Billy Lee. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Cross County (Arkansas). Bud enjoyed wood working, fishing and hunting and was a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, holding officer positions in both organizations. Ernest Williams, Jr. died 17 December 1984 and was buried in the Vanndale Cemetery, Vanndale, Arkansas.
