In Memoriam

Obituary of George K Petty, Sr.

George Kibbe Petty was born on July 17, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas. His father was a carpenter and his mother a schoolteacher. Following his father's profession, the family ended up in Tucson, Arizona, where he graduated from Tucson High School. Following graduation he was soon employed by AT&T Long Lines, a company he served loyally for the next 40 years. Soon after his employment with AT&T he was posted to Lamar, Colorado, where he soon met, wooed and wed the fair Annabel Deeter, a lovely lass to whom he was married for 62 years. Annabel finally broke his heart when she passed away in October of 2000. Courtesy of AT&T, this union saw transfers to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where George Jr. came into the world, Phoenix, Arizona, Carlsbad, New Mexico where Mike made his entrance, and back to Phoenix again. After retirement in Phoenix, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where both Annabel and George left this earth to join the Lord. As one of the members of the Greatest Generation, George served his country in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Back at AT&T, George became well known in AT&T circles for his technical and management expertise in telephony, working with both transmission and switching systems in Arizona and New Mexico. He was quite active in his church and patiently raised his sons and lived his life to exemplify the ways of a conservative, God fearing, patriotic Republican. He is survived by his sister Ruth Falconer, his sons, George, Jr. and Mike, and his Grandchildren Jennifer, Lisa, Heather, Eric and Melissa. During his life he lived, loved, served and prospered. He will be missed.
