USS SERRANO

USS Serrano

Laid down 6 March 1943, as Fleet Tug (AT-112), at United Engineers and Drydock Co., Alameda, California and launched 24 July 1943. She was reclassified Fleet Ocean Tug (ATF-112), 15 May 1944 and was commissioned USS Seranno (ATF-112), 22 September 1944.

10 May 1946, the USS Orvetta was taken in tow by the USS Serrano (ATF-112) for return to the Philippines. On the first or second night out, a severe storm caused the tow cable to break, resulting in the destruction of the Orvetta's forward winch and loss of the anchor. With much difficulty, the Orvetta's engine was started just as the ship's roll was only two degrees short of capsizing. The Orvetta completed the journey under her own power.

The Serrano was decommissioned 31 May 1950, at San Francisco, California, and was recommissioned USS Seranno (AGS-24), 30 June 1960, at San Diego, California.

Decommissioned, 2 January 1970 and struck from the Naval Register, 2 January 1970, she was sold for scrapping, 2 November 1971, to Tai-Kian Industry Co., Taiwan.
