Turn left on Clouse Hill Road.  Clock 7 miles to reach the bottom of the mountain & clock another 3/10 mile to reach the graves of  Jordan Sanders (Son)  and  Solomon Sanders (Father) who was considered a contemporary in the Cove as well as one of it's  earliest white settlers.  (ca 1805

The graves are in a cow pasture. There is a gray moblie home beside the pasture and the gate is by the road facing the moblie home.  The graves are by the large trees in the middle of the pasture and there is a sign under the trees `Sanders Cemetery`.

Tombstone  Inscriptions:

Jordan Sanders PVT 1 Tenn MTD Vols 1814-1894
&
Solomon Sanders PVT Continental Line Rev War 1730-1830

Authors Note:  It my opinion, the dates inscribed on Solomon Sanders Memorial (1730-1830) were someones educated approximation as the exact dates  (1740-1837) were probably not known at the time the memorial was being ordered.  I welcome your comments and corrections on this and would also appeciate any information regarding the identity of the person or persons responsible for the Military Memorial Stone's eventual placement. Alma

  Authors Notes on Jordan Sanders:
Jordan Sanders was the son of Solomon Sanders (1740-1837) and Mary Snow of the  AniTsiskwa Tribe (or the Bird People Clan) of NC. Jordan Sanders married Julia "July" Smith,  daughter of Thomas R. "Shieldeater" Smith, Cherokee and Mary Ermie, Cherokee of the Catawba Clan , on 24 Jul 1837 in Coffee, TN, USA. Julia was born in 1818 in TN, and  died on 4 Feb 1897 in Payne's Cove, Pelham, Grundy, TN, at age 79.  According to oral family history Julia was buried in 1897 in Sanders Cemetery in Payne's Cove, Tennessee near her husband.
