Cemetery Cleanup at Persimmon Cemetery

In March of 2001, members of the Rabun Gap Riflemen Camp #1929 participated in a cleanup day at Persimmon Cemetery in Rabun Co., GA. Those present were: Arvid Gordon, Bill English, Wayne Pailloz, Mike Cannon and Richard Grier (pictured above) and others.
Markers of Confederate veterans that were cleaned were: James M. York and Absolom Teem of Co., G, 25th NC Infantry; Hiram Stubblefield of Co. G, 1st SC Artillery and William Lawing of Co., F, 52nd GA Infantry. A new tombstone in this cemetery was recently set in this cemetery for Thomas Nichols of Co., F, 52nd GA Infantry, probably by descendants.
The cemetery cleanup project will continue at other sites in the county. Also, the local camp hopes to set up new stones for veterans whose graves are not already marked by CSA markers.

Cemeteries cleaned on 01 Mar 2003 by SCV Camp 1929 were Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery and Tiger Cemetery and at Hollifield Cemetery, a new marker installed for Andrew Jackson Williams.
