Notes from Air Force Hall of Heroes:

"All stories in this book are true. The textual matter has been prepared by Arthur S. Curtis, formerly Professor with the Rank of Instructor, Department of English, History and Government, United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland in cooperation with the various offices of the Department of Defense. All drawings are based upon photographic and other research of terrain, equipment, and personnel including enemy.

"The stories in this book were first put together, over a period of years, for use by great daily newspapers. Some newspapers ran them in color, where the true life heroes whose stories you read here shared the Sunday color sections with illustrious fictional heroes. Other newspapers ran them at times in one color, now in one part of the paper and now in another. The stories appeared under the name MEDAL OF HONOR.

"This book on air force heroes contains all--yes, all--of the Medal of Honor heroes of the Army Air Corps in World War II. For those who do not remember, the Air Force began as the Army Air Corps, and then became a separate department of its own after WWII."
