On Nov. 26, 2001 Norman Esh
was able to provide the following: After graduation was sent to Army Air Corps
Training Command at a new bombardier training base at Carlsbad, New Mexico. The base was not yet completed so he lived in an old C.C.C.
camp north of the city.

Now of Houston, TX, recalls having fun playing tennis with Jimmy Stewart, then a
"G. I. pilot:. On one occasion one of Jimmy's 'ace' serves caught his
opponent in a critical part of the groin! Stewart wasted no a moment
letting forth with a loud "Shack!".Upon
graduation 26 Sep 1942, Bob was assigned to Carlsbad bombardier school as an
instructor. Prominent at the time was the absence of any Norden or Sperry
bombsights at this school. Accordingly, the instructors taught use of the
D-8. |
