He graduated from Malvern High School in Arkansas in 1935.  Then entered the service as a Private in the 153rd Infantry on February 16, 1941.  Served 14 months before being selected by a competitive examination to transfer to the Army Air Force and entered Aviation Training at Santa Ana California. 

After receiving his bombardier wings he went to the South Pacific at the time of the Bismarck Sea Battle and was stationed at Port Moresby, New Guinea.  He flew 308 combat hours in 45 separate missions.  Was credited with shooting down at least 3 Japanese fighters, and 1 submarine along with several more probables as a part of the Famous Jolly Rogers Group.  Later he was also an instructor of Bombardiers of B-29 units and the Chief of Bombing for his unit.

Was promoted to 1LT on 7 May 1945.  Sometime prior to 9 July 1965 he was promoted to Colonel.  He retired as a full Colonel.

Died on 4 Mar 1991.


In addition to campaign medals he was a recipient of a DFC, a Legion of Merit, an Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (Korea?) and an award from from Gen. Hsu Huan-Sheng, Commander-in-Chief of the CAF to Col. Webber when he was Deputy Commander of the 13th ATF(P).
