LT. Stanford was a member of Capt. Kee Harrison’s crew and flew on two planes known by Mr. Five by Five.  They were 42-29717 and 42-3190.  This name was in reference to Capt. Harrison’s height and width.  LT. Stanford completed six missions beginning May 15, 1943 through June 13, 1943.  He was grounded due to damaged eardrums.  He stayed on in England for some time as an instructor and he also invented a ruptured shell ejector for the .50 caliber machine gun. Use the link below.

He was born on April 29, 1916 in Kokomo, Indiana.  He was a machinist at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Corporation in Pueblo, Colorado.  He died at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, Indiana on March 23, 1979 of a massive stroke

On July 14, 1943, this crew now flying a second Mr. Five by Five, 42-23190 crashed landed in Lebourget, France.  All four officers  and two enlisted men (Curtis and Polk) managed to evade capture.  The others all became POW’s.
