From the "Fighting 463rd" group history:
"On October 11th, while taking off on a practice gunnery mission, Ship 550
of the 772nd Squadron developed engine trouble. At an altitude of
approximately 100 feet, two of its engines caught fire. The pilot attempted
to gain altitude and make a landing at Foggia Main. The ship crashed on the
highway near the station hospital and burned. Killed in the crash were Lts.
Clement Smith, Jewel Hastings and Richard Nautsch. Also Sgts. Herbert Lane,
Mark George and Warren Davenport.
The injured were Lts. William Forehand, Paul Fredson and Earl Thompson, and
Sgts. Raymond Wojciak, Charles Stella and Armstead Noble."

Nielsen was from Long Island City, NY.
He was at Kimbolton from about June to August when the plane was shot down
on 9 Aug 1944, near Liege The plane crashed landed in the town of Rillaar,
Belgium and all were MIA's in Belgium. The entire crew was hidden by the Belgian "Underground" and they all walked out in mid-September. MACR is 7393.
