BIG SPRING, TEXAS
(90 MILES SOUTH OF LUBBOCK)
The Bombardier School was activated 28 June 1942, about the same
time as San Angelo, Texas. Cadets of the first class, 42-17, arrived on 26
September 1942, and graduated 106 strong on 17 December 1942. A total of 40
classes received their training here; 39 with American students and 1 of 43
Chinese students. Over 6,000 bombardiers were graduated. French students were
first trained with class 44-5 and were in every class thereafter except one. A
few Brazilian and many Chinese students were also trained. The Army field was
inactivated 30 November 1945 and reverted back to the city of Big Spring, 'BZ'
in radio code.
