This photograph of Nurnburg taken just after the end of the war shows devastation typical of many German cities. The marshalling yards here were repeatedly targeted in February 1945 by the 379th. Inevitably civilian property and historic buildings were also damaged and destroyed. |
| The U-Boat pens of St. Nazaire in France were the first target for the the 379th BG on May 29th, 1943. A total of 24 Flying Fortresses from the 379th launched for this raid. Three aircraft aborted and three were lost including the plane flown by the CO of the 526th BS, Major John Hall. St. Nazaire was known as "Flak City" to the aircrews of the 8th AF. | ![]() |

During the last few months of the war, the 379th BG helped finish off what was left of the German transportation system with special emphasis on the railroads and bridges. The marshalling yard at Mannheim was systematically wrecked between January and February 1945. |
