Transcript:

HEADQUARTERS 64TH FIGHTER WING
Office of the Wing Commander
APO # 525

October 4, 1943.

SUBJECT : Commendation.
TO : 1st Lieutenant Gardner L. Friedlander.

    1. I take pleasure in commending you for your devotion to duty and display of courage during the period 12-21 September. During this period of battle in the Salerno area all of our installations and roads within the bridgehead were subjected to intense artillery fire and repeated bombing attacks. Throughout this time instead of seeking cover you continued to perform your duties in the face of danger and contributed much to the success of our air operations.

J. R. HAWKINS,
Colonel, Air Corps,
Commanding.
