Dear Family,
Gen I invited me over for dinner last night...it was swell and a good part of the reason was that Madelaine Carrol was the other guest. I was most favorably impressed; she seems very intelligent, and very unlike what I've believed actresses would be. Most enjoyable evening; it certainly is different from eating out here, where we grab our mess kits at five, amble over to the mess line, get our mess kits filled, and then try to find a place at one of the tables to eat. When I'm with the Battalion we have an officers' mess...but even then the difference is so great, no charming ladies or gleaming table cloths and silverware there, either!
I have two irons in the fire for getting a transfer from this outfit. No chance of either a promotion or return home here, so I'm trying to get out. One job is along the line I trained for, the other an administrative job. Hope one of them comes through!
Very busy, doing all sorts of trifling things, from censoring mail, getting laundry done, on up. But time passes quickest that way.
Love,
Bun
