& UK-British Army ..... Surviving records of those
discharged after 1922 ~ stored in the Ministry of Defence
Record Office CS(R)2b at Bourne Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex
UB3 1RS. This includes territorial, volunteer, militia
and home-defence forces and some colonial forces.
Information on these service records could be obtained by
application to: Ministry of Defence Records Office CS(R)2,
Bourne Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex UB3 1RF, United Kingdom.
{Telephone ++44 0208 573 3831}. They will send you an
application form that will require a search fee per each
inquiry. Payment of the search fee does not guarantee a
successful result. The MOD now requires applicants to
certify that they are the individual concerned or their
next of kin, together with a copy of the death
certificate, as appropriate. There is reportedly a long
delay in getting the response which will be a statement
of service and not copies of the original documents.

Military Fund Index ~ The Madras Military Fund was
established in 1808 and was closed to new subscribers in
1862. Records of fund members include death, burial,
marriage, baptism and birth certificates with some
personal statements or declarations of names and birth
dates of family members. Certificates originate not only
from the British Isles (England, Scotland,
Ireland, Wales, and the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and
Isle of Wight) but also from France, Holland, Germany,
Italy, Switzerland, the island of Malta, Cape Town in
South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and, of course,
India. There are also several certificates for deaths at
sea.

Railway Women in Wartime Index ~ The author/compiler
writes "I visited the British Library, the National
Railway Museum, the London Transport Museum, the Trades
Unions Congress library, the Fawcett Library, the
Imperial War Museum, the Public Record Office, and the
Scottish Record Office. During this research I discovered
material which attested to women's employment by railway
companies during the First World War as well as the
second, and in peacetime, and in capacities which I was
completely unaware."
