Thought I would send a bit of info on what happened to me after
graduation. First off, I was sent to Keesler to attend the 3041B
course. Following the year in Mississippi, went to Denver to attend a
classified course for a year. Stayed there as an instructor until
1966. During that time, I attended night school at U of Colorado Denver
extension and finally spent two semesters at the University of Omaha and
received a Bachelors degree in mathematics. Following the stay in
Denver, went back to Keesler to attend the C&E Staff School. Upon
graduation, was assigned to Tatalina AFS, Alaska for one year as the
Radar Maintenance Officer. In 1967, was assigned to Hill AFB, Utah to
the Radar Eval Squadron and took over the Evaluation Projects Branch.
We stayed at Hill until 1970 when we were re-assigned to Elmendorf AFB,
Alaska to assume the job of Electronics Inspector with the Alaskan Air
Command Inspector Generals Office, which I held until 1975. In 1975 the
IG decided that I had been in the IG too lond and was beginning to like
the job too well and had me re-assigned to Hq Alaskan Air Command DCS
Operations where I held the position as Radar Evaluation Project
Officer. During the tour as Inspector, I was promoted to Major. After
a year at the new position, in 1976, I decided that my career was to end
after 24 years and filed papers for retirement. Elaine and I came to
Richardson, Texas where I retired on 1 August 1976 as a Major.
Upon retirement, I began working for ICOM East, Inc., a distributor of Amateur and Marine radio equipment by ICOM, Osaka, Japan. Eventually I became the Operations Manager for this location. This occured after the factory in Japan bought out the assets and personnel of ICOM East. I stayer at that job until Jan 1985 when I joined Rockwell International as a Microwave Product Line Manager. I managed all the low density analog microwave radios and developed several low density digital radios.
In 1989, I was caught in a RIF and went to work for Optical Data Systems as their Product Line Manager. Stayed there for one year and was offered an opportunity to return to Rockwell in the Government Systems Engineering Department, which I accepted. Got my time bridged and my old salary back. I stayed there until Alcatel purchased Rockwell and offered to buy the Government group I worked in. Took early retirement from Rockwell and went to work for Alcatel the next day. Well, 15 months later, I was offerd a Golden Hand shake by Alcatel and left the company. This was in 1994.
I next worked for a system integration company named JEFA doing sales engineering, sales, and finally, microweave system design and implementation for the Southern Company in Birmingham, Alabama. I left JEFA after 15 months in Birmingham when they refused to reassign me back to Richardson. I joined a new company at that time called PrimeCo Personal Communications, one of the new PCS providers for the alternative to Cellular, where I work today. My job has be that of Microwave relocation. Our group gets the 2GHz microwave users moved to other frequencies when they get in the way of PCS expansion.
