During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service for three years in company E on 28 August 1861 at Philadelphia Pennsylvania (1, 2, 6). He was enlisted by Captain Lentz, and mustered into service by Colonel Reiff (2).

He was wounded in action on 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia (1, 2). He was reported missing in action on 7 May 1863 (5).

He mustered out on 9 September 1864, at Weldon Railroad, Virginia, when his term expired (1, 2, 3 [6 September], 6, 7).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 7 November 1864 (4, 8).

His widow, Mary McCartney, applied successfully for a pension on 7 October 1872 (4, 8).

In 1890, his widow Mary McCartney was living at 809 (rear) Carpenter Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6).
