During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 18 October 1861 (1, 4, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Keyser (4, 6). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He served as a private, initially in company B (1).

He was transferred to company C (1, 4).

On 10 April 1863, he was detailed as a stretcher bearer (2).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (8).

He was discharged at Washington, DC, on 23 November 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 3, 4, 5).

After the war

On 28 February 1873, he died, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of natural causes (11). He was married (11). He died at, or was buried from, 412 North 24th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). On 4 March 1873, he was buried, at Mount Moriah Cemetery (11).

On 17 August 1875, his widow, Ann McDougell, unsuccessfully applied for a pension (9, 10).
