During the war

He was a substitute (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 16 July 1863 (1, 3 [11 July], 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lehman (3). He served in company I of the 118th Pennsylvania (4).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from company I of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2, 4). He reported for duty on 3 June 1865 (3). No pay account was received from his officer (3). He served as a private in company D in the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

At some point, he had drawn $18.22; there had been no settlement (3).

He was absent, on detached service, when the regiment mustered out (1).
