James McGuckin

Before the war

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 4 November 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He was mustered in, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I (1, 3).

He was discharged on 31 March 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1 [31 March], 2 [no date], 3). He had served for sixteen months (4).

After the war

On 4 October 1879, he was admitted to the National Soldiers Home (4). He had a prolapsed anus, but was not receiving any pension (4).

He died on 8 May 1880, at the Central Branch of the National Soldiers Home (4).

On 30 December 1881, his widow, Susannah McGuckin, successfully applied for a pension (5, 6).
