He was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair (5).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 2 December 1861 (1, 5, 6, 9 [21 Dec]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Weeks (5). He served as a private in company F (1).

He was at Camp Convalescent, Alexandria, Virginia, on 8 September 1863, when Lieutenant Colonel Sinex asked for his return (2).

He was transferred on 30 September 1863 to the Veterans' reserve corps (1, 3, 4, 5, 9 [4 Aug 63]). He served in 33 company 2nd battalion (8, 9). He was discharged in December 1864 (6).

After the war

On 10 May 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (8, 9).

In 1890, he was living at 1437 South 17th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6, 7). He was a fireman (7). Living with him were Hugh McMichael and Charles Roberts (7).

On 24 June 1893, he died, in Medico-Chirurgical Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of second [?] hemorrhage (amp. of thigh) (9 [27 June], 10 [24 June]). He was married (10). He worked in the gas works (10). He died at, or was buried from, 1217 9th [?] Street (or perhaps 1217 south 18th Street?), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). On 27 June 1893, he was buried, at Mt Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10).
