Description

He was 5 feet 11 inches tall, and had a sallow complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair (2, 4, 5 [dark eyes]).

During the war

He also served in company K of the 155th Pennslyvania (7). He also served in company C of the 62nd Pennsylvania (7).

He was a substitute for L J Jeffries (1, 2, 5). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 10 March 1865 (1, 2, 4, 5). He was enlisted for one year, at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, by W Blouter [or Barton?] (2, 4, 5). He was mustered in as a private in company K (1, 2). His service was credited to the 78th subdivision of the 21st congressional district (2, 5).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 20 March 1879 (2, 7).

In 1880, he was living in Fayette, Fayette County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a house painter, and had been unemployed for 8 months (6). He was living with his daughter Dora (6).

His minor dependent, William C Athey, applied unsuccessfully for a pension on 9 November [illegible year] (2, 7).

(The PA Archives does have a Leroy Abbott, which does not mention an alternative name in the muster rolls.) Since the data match Abbott's, I suspect that Learney is really Abbott]
