Description

He was 5 feet 7/8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair (2).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 3 March 1864 (1, 2 [mustered 3 May 64], 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania, by Captain Stretch (2). He was mustered in by Lieutenant Burke (2). He served as a private in company D (1).

He was reported gained on 21 April 1864 (3).

He was wounded on 14 May 1864 (1, 8).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 9).

After the war

In 1868/69, he married Martha [unknown surname] (8). They had twelve children, seven of whom were alive in 1900 (8). Their children included:

In 1880, he was living in Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Martha, and sons George, Edward, Daniel, and Louis (6). He was a laborer, and had been out of work for two months in the previous year (6).

On 13 August 1884, he successfully applied for a pension from Pennsylvania (4, 9).

In 1890, he was living in Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (post office Fernwood) (5). He had suffered a gunshot wound in his right foot at Peeble's Farm (5).

In 1900, he was living in Fernwood District, Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Martha and children Louis, Harry, Margaret, and James (7). He was a day laborer, and had been out of work for eleven months in the previous year (7).

On 11 January 1909, he again applied for a pension (9).

He died on 7 August 1921, at the National Soldiers' Home in Elizabeth City County, Virginia (9).
