Harry T Angel

Before the war

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10, 16, 17). He was 21 years old when he was enlisted (10, 16 [10 in 1850], 17 [18 in 1860]).

In 1850, he was living in Sterling Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania (16). He was living with Charles and Elanor Angel (presumably his parents), and with Samuel, Joseph, William, and Calak Angel (presumably his siblings) (16). He had attended school with the year (16).

In 1860, he was living in Sterling Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania (17). He was living with Charles and Elbenor [sic] Angel (presumably his parents) and with others (presumably relatives) (17). He was a farmer (17).

He was a farm[er] when he was enlisted (10).

Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (10).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 6 September 1862 (1, 10). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (10). He was mustered in as a private in company H, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Colonel Reiff (1, 10). He was paid $29.00 in bounty and premium (10).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (13).

He was the subject of a regimental order on 22 September 1863 (3). Unfortunately, the copy in the regimental orders book stops after his name.

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 30 men who had more than fifteen months to serve who were willing to reenlist (2). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (7).

On 24 March 1864, Sinex requested that Isaac Tyson and Joseph Clowney replace Angel and Charles Armstrong, apparently on a detail (4).

He was promoted to corporal on 28 March 1864, effective that date (4).

On 14 August 1864, he returned to the regiment from hospital (11).

On 6 October 1864, he was promoted to fifth sergeant (6, 9).

He was wounded on action on 24 November 1864 (1) at Boyndton Road (8, 10 [Hatchers Run, 27 Oct]). He died of those wounds on 26 November 1864, at Bates [?] Hospital, in Alexandria, Virginia (1, 8, 12). He was a sergeant when he died (1).

After the war

In 1870, his presumed parents, Charles and Elnore Angel, were living in Sterling Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania (18). They were living with three presumed children (Samuel, William, and Clarke) and with a domestic servant (18).

On 7 April 1871, his mother, Eleanor Angel, applied successfully for a pension (14, 15).
