Description

He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 2). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 27 or 29 March 1865 (1 [29 Mar], 2 [27 Mar], 3 [27 Mar]). He was enlisted for one year, at Scranton, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Colonel Boole (2). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1).

He was discharged by general order on 23 August 1865 (1, 3).

After the war

In 1867/68, he married Mary E [unknown surname] (6). In 1900 and 1910, she had had three children, all of whom were alive (6, 7).

In 1870, he was living in Shickshinny Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (4). He was living with his wife Emily, and daughter Nellie (4). He was a laborer, and owned $100 in personal property (4).

On 19 December 1879, he successfully applied for a pension (9).

In 1880, he was living in Shickshinny Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Mary E, and daughters Nellie and Lottie (5). He was a confectioner (5).

In 1890, he was living in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (3).

In 1900, he was living at 20 Union Street, Shickshinny Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Mary E and son William (6). He was a merchant in dry goods and groceries (6).

He died in 1906 (9). He was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (by 1919) (8).

His widow successfully applied for a pension (9).

In 1910, his widow Emma was living in Shickshinny Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (7). She was living with her son William (7). She was a merchant of a general store (7).
