He was a substitute (1, 2). He was enrolled and mustered into service in the 91st Pennsylvania on 22 March 1865 (1, 2). He was mustered in as a private, at Reading, Pennsylvania (2). He served as a private in company B (1).

He was transferred to the 19th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, as a deserter (1, 2, 3). The published record of the 19th Massachusetts does not record his return (4).
