Abner Bartolette

Before the war

He was 22 years old when he was enrolled (3, 10 [17 in 1860], 11 [53 in 1895], 14 [53 at death in 1895]). He was born on 5 October 1842 (9, 10). He was born in Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to Daniel Bertolet and Catharine Gabel (9, 10).

In 1860, he was living in Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his mother and other relatives, and two people with different surnames (10). He was a farm laborer (10).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was enrolled and mustered into service on 2 March 1865 (1, 3, 4). He was enrolled as a private, at Norristown, Pennsylvania (3). He served as a private in company B (1).

He was "to be charged"--perhaps for lost equipment, when the regiment mustered out (2).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 4).

After the war

In 1880, he was living at 812 Ringold Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his brother Samuel, and Samuel's family (8). He was a brickmaker (8).

On 8 August 1886, he married Margaret Myer (9). They had one child, Abner W Bertolet (born 30 December 1887) (9).

In 1890, he was living at 2114 Diamond, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4, 5) His occupation was "bricks", at the corner of Lehigh Avenue and North 26th Street (5).

On 26 January 1892, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7, 12 [issued 7 January 1895]).

He died on 28 June 1895, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of paralysis (9, 11, 14). He died at, or was buried from 2057 North 9th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14). He was a brick manufacturer then (14). The funeral was held on 30 June, at the First Mennonite Church, on Diamond Street near Fifth Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11, 14 [1 July]). He was buried in Bertolet's Mennonite Meeting House Cemetery, Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (9, 11, 14 [Zieglersville]).

On 6 July 1895, his widow, Maggie Bertolet, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).

On 6 June 1905, a minor dependent, Garden [?] Bertolet, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).

In 1909, Daniel H Bertolet filed the account of his guardianship of Abner W Bertolet (13).

His widow Margaret died in 1913, and was buried with him (9).

BERTOLET.--On June 28, 1865, Abner Bertolet, aged 53 years. The relatives and friends of the family, also Enterprise Council, No. 7, L.O.R.C, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services, on Sunday evening, June 30, at 7.45, First Mennonite Church, Diamond street, near Fifth. To proceed with 7.40 A.M. train from Reading Terminal, Monday morning, to Zieglersville Station. Services and interment at 10.30 A.M., Bertolet's Mennonite Meeting House.
