He was a lumberman when he was enlisted (8, 9, 10).
He was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a light complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (8, 9, 10 [5'3"]).
He was enlisted and mustered into service in the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry on 20 March 1862 (1, 10 [10 Feb 62]). He was mustered in as a private at Brookville, Pennsylvania (10). He served in company M (12).
He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 13 February 1864, at Rappahannock Station (1, 8, 9, 10 [15 Feb]). He was enlisted for three years, at Licken Run, Virginia, by Lieutenant Adams (8, 9). He was mustered in by Captain Gentry on 15 February 1864, at Rappahannock Station, Virginia (8, 9).
He was wounded in June 1864 (6).
He was transferred from company M of the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry on 20 July 1864 (1, 10, 12).
On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (3). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (4, 6). He was then absent, as a private (4). He served in company K (1).
On 17 February 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 January 1865 (1, 5, 6, 10).
In June 1865, he was detailed in the provost guard in Division Headquarters (13).
He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 10, 12).
He applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 19 May 1884 (2, 12).
In 1890, he was living in Limestone Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania (11). He had a wounded left leg and rheumatism (11).
On 28 February 1907, he applied successfully for a pension (12).
He died on 18 July 1917, at Summerville, [Jefferson County,] Pennsylvania (12).
