George S Bennett

He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, hazel eyes, and sandy hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted from the sixteenth congressional district (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1, 3, 4 [26 Sep], 10). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3). He served as a private in company F (1).

He was discharged by general order on 1 June 1865 (1 [1 Jun 65], 2 [1 June 1864], 4 [5 June], 10 [30 May]).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Southampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Sarah and his children Samuel and Alfred (5). He was a farmer, and owned $2,000 in real estate, and $500 in personal property (5).

In 1880, he was living in Southampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Sarah, and his children Samuel, Alfred, Dennis, Allie, and Mary (6). He worked in farming (6).

On 4 September 1888, he applied successfully from Maryland for a pension (9, 10).

In 1890, he was living in Southampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (4).

In 1900, he was living in Southampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his son Alfred and daughter-in-law Mary (7). He was a farmer (7).

He again applied for a pension, on 29 May 1907 (10).

In 1910, he was living in Southampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his son Alfred and Alfred's family (8). He was living on his own income (8).

He died on 26 July 1919, at Flintstone, Maryland (10).
