In 1860, he was living in Jackson Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with Christopher and Sarah Bilby (presumably his parents), and five other Bilby's (presumably his siblings) (5). He had attended school in the previous year (5).

He was a farmer when he was enlisted (2).

Description

He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 16 March 1865 (1, 2, 3 [1864], 8). He was enlisted for 2 [sic] years, at North Branton [?? (probably New Brighton, Beaver, Pennsylvania)], by Captain Calbertson [?] (2). He served as a private in company I (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 2, 3, 8).

After the war

In 1869/70, he married Susan [unknown surname] (7). In 1900, she had had six children, five of whom were alive (7).

On 11 November 1879, he applied successfully for a pension (4, 8).

In 1880, he was living in Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Susan and his children Rena, Sallie, Jemima, and Daniel (6). He was a blacksmith (6).

In 1890, he was living in Kiskiminster Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania (3). He had a gun shot wound in his arm (3).

In 1900, he was living in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Susan, and children Jeanetta, Daniel, and Alva (7). He was a carpenter (7).

On 30 [?] August 1910, he again applied for a pension (8).

He died on 17 January 1925, at Sharon, [Mercer County,] Pennsylvania (8).
