During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private at Philadelphia Pennsylvania as a recruit [i.e. a volunteer?] for three years in company E on 22 January 1864 (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted by Lieutenant Shipley and mustered into service by Lieutenant Hilderburn (2).

On 26 March 1864, he was reported sent to hospital (4). On 29 April 1864, he was reported returned to duty (5).

He was wounded on 18 June 1864 at Petersburg Virginia (1).

On 28 September 1864, he returned to duty (6).

He was discharged on 15 June 1865 by general order (1, 3 [17 Jun 65, special order 77, 17 Jun 65]]).
