Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair. [source: 3]

In 1865, he was 5 feet 8-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark brown eyes, and black hair. He had no permanent marks or scars. [source: 9]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 November 1861. He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Fetter. He was a private, in company G. [sources: 1, 3, 10, 11]

He was transferred on 4 December 1861 to company F. [sources: 1, 4]

He was discharged, at Camp in the Field, on 10 January 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability. He was a private, in company F. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 10, 11]

After the war

On 19 December 1865, he enlisted in the US Navy, to serve on an ironclad. He enlisted at League Island, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a bookkeeper. [source: 9]

On 4 April 1873, he successfully applied for a pension. [sources: 5, 7]

On 31 May 1875, he died, in Philadelphia Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of internal hemorrhage. On 3 June 1875, he was buried, in Lafayette Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 8]
