During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 15 October 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Matlack (3). He was mustered in as a private in company K, by Captain Gilbert (1, 3).

He was discharged at Washington, DC, on 25 March 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2).
