Before the war

He was born on 14 January 1836 (9; 7 [34 in 1870], 8 [42 in 1880], 14 [68 yrs 9 mos 26 dys on 8 Nov 1904]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7, 8, 9, 14).

During the war

He initially was captain of company K of the regiment Edward Wallace was recruiting (4). A recruiting poster for his company (dated 2 September 1861) lists the location as the Morse Literary Institute, Frankford Road and York Street (4).

By 19 October 1861, he was captain of company H of the combined regiment (10).

He was mustered into service as Captain on 25 November 1861 (1, 3, 4, 13). He served in company H (1).

He resigned either on 22 February 1862 (1, 4), 4 March 1862 (3), or 5 March 1862 (2).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in the 25th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (post office: Bridesburg) (7). His occupation was: "serves milk" (7). He was living with his wife Virginia and son Charles, along with three Tazell's (7).

In 1880, he was living on Green Lane, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was a milk dealer (8). He was living with his wife Virginia and son Charles (8).

In 1900, he was living on Green Lane, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was a milk dealer (9). He was living with his wife Virginia and niece Virginia Tazel (9).

On 1 March 1902, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 15).

He died at his residence (Kerbaugh Street west of Richmond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), on 8 November 1904, of pneumonia, with collopus [?] contributing (14, 15). He was a milk dealer (14). He was buried on 12 November 1904, at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14).

On 10 November [?] 1904, his widow, Virginia Brown, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 15).
