He was 28 years old when he was enrolled (11 [26], 12 [28], 13 [28]). He was born in Northumberland, Pennsylvania (12, 13).

He was a hotel keeper (12, 13). He was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when he was enrolled (11).

Description

He was 5 feet 8-3/4 inches tall, and had a light complexion, gray eyes, and light hair (12, 13).

During the war

He also served in the 155th Pennsylvania infantry (unassigned to a company) (14, 15).

He was enrolled and mustered into service as a private on 5 September 1862 (12, 13) or 10 September 1862 (1), at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 11, 12, 14 [10 Sep]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (12, 13). He was mustered by Lieutenant Gregory (12, 13). He served as a private in company B (1).

He was at Camp Convalescent, Alexandria, Virginia, on 8 September 1863, when Lieutenant Colonel Sinex asked for his return (2).

On 26 September 1863, he was reported returned from hospital for duty (7).

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 30 men who had more than fifteen months to serve who were willing to reenlist (4). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (8).

On 3 April 1864, he was detailed by Lieutenant Colonel Sinex as clerk for the regimental quartermaster (4, 6, 16 [5 Apr]). He was still the clerk for the quartermaster department on 20 November 1864 (5).

He was discharged on 14 June 1865 by general order (1, 9 [3 May 1865--but that may be the date of the order], 11 [30 May 65], 14 [14 Jun 65]). He was mustered out in Satterlee [?] Hospital, West Philadelphia (9).

After the war

On 30 October 1899, he successfully applied from Ohio for a pension (14, 15).
