Description

He was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (7).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 25 September 1861 (1, 7, 8, 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Keyser (7, 8). He served as a private in company C (1).

On 8 October 1862, he deserted, near Washington DC (5). He returned (5).

On 25 September 1863, General Ayres detailed him as a saddler (3). He was still there in September [?] 1864 (3).

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve who were unwilling to reenlist (2). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (4).

He mustered out near Petersburg, Virginia, on 25 September 1864, when his term expired (1, 6, 8, 9 [26 Sep], 10).

After the war

On 16 February 1888, he applied successfully for a pension (11, 12).

In 1890, he was living in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania (9).

On 19 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (11).

He died on 12 March 1907 (11).

On 8 August 1907, his widow, Agnes Campbell, applied unsuccessfully for a pension (11, 12).
