He was born in Pennsylvania (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14). He was 19 years old when he was enrolled (3, 9 [4 in 1850], 10 [13 in 1860], 11 [24 in 1870], 12 [34 in 1880], 13 [54 in 1900], 14 [64 in 1910]). He was born in December 1845, to Daniel Boyer Clauser and Susanna Brumbach (7 [1847], 8, 13 [Dec 1845]).
In 1850, he was living in Earl Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his parents, Daniel and Susanna Clouser, and others (9).

In 1890, he was living in Northampton County, Pennsylvania (6).
In 1899/1900, he married Eliza [unknown surname] (14). In 1900 and 1910, she had had one child, who was living (13, 14). According to the 1910 census, this was his second marriage, and her first (14).
In 1900, he was living in Upper Saucon Valley, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his second wife, Eliza, two of his children (Harvey and Annie), and Eliza's son William T Clymer (13). He was a farmer (13).
