Description

During the war

He was a substitute for Thomas Franklin, 2nd subdistrict, 2nd congressional district (3). He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private in company E on 28 March 1865, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania, for 1 year (1, 4). He was enlisted and mustered in by Captain Lehman (4). He was mustered in on 28 March 1865, Philadelphia Pennsylvania (3). $625 was taken from him at Draft Rendezvous (check 1342) (3).

He died of typhoid fever (according to the "certificate of death"; the company muster roll and company death list (2) have diphtheria) on 3 May 1865, at City Point Hospital (2, 3, 5). When he died he had 1 blouse, 1 pair of trowsers, 1 ring, and 1 vest, and owed the government $.65 for one canteen (3). He was buried on 3 May 1865, section 3, grave 9 [?], row 4 (presumably at City Point Hospital) (3).

After the war

On 16 June 1865, his widow, Anne O'Donald, applied successfully for a pension (6, 7).

On 24 October 1872, a minor dependent, C Milligan, applied successfully for a pension (6, 7).
