Thomas Conroy

Before the war

He was 19 years old when he was enrolled (3, 4 [21 in 1863], 5 [21 in 1863], 10 [33 in 1880]). He was born in New York (9, 10).

He moved to Pennsylvania "in early manhood" (9).

He was a boatman (3, 4, 5). He was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when he was enrolled (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a light complexion, gray eyes, and red hair (3, 4, 5).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 14 October 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Bowman (2). He served as a private in company B (1).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (8).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 24 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 3, 4 [25 Dec], 5 [25 Dec]). He was enlisted for three years by Lieutenant Carpenter, and mustered by Lieutenant Swan (4, 5).

Beginning 2 March 1864, he was absent sick, in the hospital at Chester, Pennsylvania (11).

His descriptive list was sent on 19 April 1864; unfortunately the descriptive roll does not say to where it was sent (4). At some time (perhaps when his list was sent?) he had one knapsack, one haversack, and one canteen (4).

He was still absent sick in May 1864 (11).
