He was born on 18 January 1827 (3, 4) or 27 February 1827 (2), in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, to Jacob Corle Junior and Catherine Mock (2, 3). He was 37 years old when he was enlisted, (9, 12 [33 in 1860], 16 [25 in 1850]). He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9, 12, 16).
He married Elizabeth Whysong on 28 April 1847, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (4). (She was born on 21 (2, 13) or 22 (3) August 1827, in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (2, 3).)
They had nine children (2, 3 [8--doesn't mention Catherine]):
In 1850, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (16). He was living with his wife Betsey, and with Mary Ann and Cathan Corle (presumably their children) (16). He was a farmer (16).
In 1860, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and with their children Mary Ann and Elias (12). He was a farmer, and owned $400 in real estate, and $200 in personal property (12).
He was a storekeeper when he was enlisted (9).
He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (9).
He was drafted (1, 9). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1, 9). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (9). His service was credited to the 16th Congressional District (9). He served as a private in company G (1).
He was wounded on 27 October 1864 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia (1). He died in hospital of those wounds, either on that day (1), or on 29 October 1864 (8, 9 [29 Oct (?)], 11).
He was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery near Pavia, Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7; 4).
On 23 January 1865, his widow, Elizabeth Corle, successfully applied for a pension (10, 15).
His widow, Elizabeth, married Joseph Walter (13).
In 1870, Joseph and Elizabeth Walter were living in Union, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (14). They were living with Elias, Sarah, and Adolphus (Elizabeth's children), and Maria (all surnamed 'Walter') (14).
(According to some gedcoms available on RootsWeb WorldConnect, his wife, Elizabeth, married Josiah Imler. However, the absence of her children in the household with Josiah and Elizabeth Imler in the 1870 and 1880 census (see 6), the presence of (apparently) her children in the household with Joseph and Elizabeth Walter, and the other evidence cited by (13), suggests that she actually married Joseph Walter.)
On 17 [illegible] 1866, his minor dependent, A Ake, successfully applied for a pension (10, 15).
