He was born in 1828, to Adam Corle and Martha Shull (6, 7). He was 37 years old when he was enlisted (3, 8 [31 in 1860]). He was born in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (3, 6, 7, 8).

In 1846, he married Sarah Claar (7; some others have 'Sarah Walters'?). They had ten children (7):

In 1860, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Sarah and children George, Matilda, Martha, Susannah, and Simon (8). He was a farm laborer, and owned $75 in personal property (8).

He was a farmer when he was enlisted (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1, 3). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3). His service was credited to the 16th Congressional District (3). He served as a private in company G (1).

He was killed on 27 October 1864 near S.8 [?] railroad, at Hatcher's Run, Virginia (1, 2, 3, 4 [Petersburg], 5, 6 [26 Oct 64], 7 [26 Oct 64]).

After the war

On 23 June 1865, his widow, Sarah Corle, applied successfully for a pension (10, 11).

In 1870, his widow Sarah was living in South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9). She was living with her children Martha, Joseph, and Sarah, as well as two other Corle's (9).

In 1890, his widow, Sarah Corl, was living in New Enterprise, South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (4).
