In 1850, he was living in ward 5, Spring Garden, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (25). He was living with his mother Margarete, along with ten other people (25).
In 1860, he was living in the 14th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (17). He was living with his wife Emma and three children: Emma, Anna, and William (17). He was a bricklayer, and owned $200 in personal property (17).
In 1861, he was a bricklayer, living at "r 1133 Olive", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (21 citing 1861 McElroy's City Directory).
He was 5 feet 11-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (12). He had "plenty of India ink marks on [his] arms" (12).
He was enlisted and mustered into service on 20 August 1861 (1, 12, 13). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Colonel Reiff (12, 13 [Lt Col]). He served as a private in company C (1).
He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (22).
On 28 July 1863, he was detailed for duty with the brigade train (4).
On 5 August 1863, he was temporarily detailed as assistant wagon master (5).
He returned to his company on 2 November 1863 (9).
On 10 December 1863, he was detailed by General Ayres as wagon master of the division ordnance train (6, 8 [11 Dec]). He was still there in September [?] 1864 (8).
On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve who were unwilling to reenlist (3). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (10).
He mustered out near Petersburg, Virginia, on 20 September 1864, when his term expired (1, 11, 13). He was then a wagoneer (11).
In 1870, he was living in the 14th [?] ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (18). He was living with his wife Emma, his children William, Charles, Emma, and his granddaughter (?) Emma (18) He was a bricklayer (18).
In 1880, he was living at 2526 Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (19). He was a bricklayer (19). He was living with his wife Emma and four children: William, Charles
He attended the 1884 meeting of the 91st's Survivor's Association, with two sons (2).
In 1890, he was living at 2546 or 2528 Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14, 15). He was a bricklayer (15). John Myers was also living there (15).
On 23 November 1896, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (16, 26).
He died of a cerebral hemorrhage, on 25 April 1900, at the Hospital for the Insane, at Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (23, 26, 27). He was a bricklayer (27). His funeral was on Sunday, 29 April 1900, from 2533 Nicholas Street (23, 27). Those invited included the ED Baker Post, no 8, GAR, the survivors of the 91st, and the Master Bricklayers' Association (23). He was buried on 29 April 1900 in the White Marsh Cemetery, apparently in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (23, 27). According to a collection of Montgomery County cemetery records, he was buried at Union Cemetery at Zion Lutheran Church, Flourtown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (7). Perhaps his body was removed.
On 4 May 1900 [?], his widow, Emma Cox, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (16, 26).
In 1900, his widow Emma was living at 1706 N 19th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her sister Eliza and two nephews (20).
On 15 June 1918, she swore an affidavit supporting the pension claim of her niece Angeline Moyer. Her address was 2142 South 67th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

On this 15th day of June 1918, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, Emma Cox, aged 82 years, whose post-office address is 2142 So 67th St Philadelphia Pa, who being duly sworn by me according to law declares in relation to the aforesaid claim as follows:
This is to certify that the claimant being my niece I have personal knowledge the [sic] facts concerning her claim for pension, knowing her soldier husband (William MacLachlan) by first marriage and her late husband (William Moyer) by second marriage.
1. That the claimant and her soldier husband did live together as husband and wife from the time of their marriage until his death and that they were never divorced.
2. That her late husband William Moyer has never served in the army or navy of the United States.
3. That the claimant has not been married to any other since the soldier's death than to William Moyer.
4. That the claimant has never been divorced from William Moyer and that they did live together as husband and wife from their marriage until the death of said husband
