He was born on 1 June 1836 (15) or January 1833 (13), to Robert Crozier and [unknown] (15). He was born in Ireland (9, 11 [PA], 12 [PA], 13 [PA], 14 [PA], 15 [Philadelphia PA]). He was 29 years old when he was enlisted (9, 11 [37 in 1870], 12 [47 in 1880], 13 [67 in 1900], 14 [76 in 1910]).
He was a leather[worker] when he was enlisted (9).
He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (9).
He was enlisted and mustered into service on 28 December 1861 (1, 3, 5, 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by C L Zinn (9). He was mustered in as a private, in company H (1, 3, 5).
He was present as a private on the January/February and March/April 1862 muster rolls (3).
He was promoted on 20 May 1862 to fifth corporal, replacing John Wood (3, 7). He was present on the May/June and July/August 1862 muster rolls (3).
On 12 September 1862, he was "Absent left sick at Camp Whipple" (3).
He was promoted on 11 October 1862, when Brown [Charles S Brown?] was promoted (3). He was present on the September/October and November/December 1862, and January/February and March/April 1863 muster rolls (3).
He was severely wounded on 3 May 1863 in his arm, at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia (3). The 91st Pennsylvania muster rolls have him in hospital, in Germantown Pennsylvania, from May 1863 to May 1865 (3, 5). According to the Cuyler Hospital (Germantown, Philadelphia, PA) muster rolls, he was attached to the hospital on 2 October 1863 (owed pay for May-August), and transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Veterans' Reserve Corps on 28 January 1864 (3).
Colonel Gregory ordered him dropped from the rolls on 14 January 1864 (3). On 9 February 1864, he was discharged from the military as disabled because of a gunshot wound, fracture of radius and ulna, left forearm, and loss of use of hand, received at the battle of Chancellorsville (3, 5 [17 Feb 64]). But Lieutenant Colonel Sinex ordered him returned to the rolls in March or April 1864 (3).
He was discharged at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by general order, War Department, on 23 May 1865 (1, 3, 8). According to the detachment muster-out roll, he had last been paid to 30 April 1863, and a descriptive list including him had been sent to the hospital on 21 Nov 1863 muster rolls (3).
In 1864/65, he married Maria [unknown surname] (13, 14). In 1900, she had had 12 children, 6 of whom were alive (13). In 1910, she had had 13 children, 5 of whom were alive (14).
He applied successfully for a pension on 17 March 1864 (4, 10).
In 1870, he was living in ward 1, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife Maria and children Ulysses, Elizabeth, and Annie (11). He was a morocco finisher (11).
In 1880, he was living at 925 Mountain Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his wife Maria, and children Ulysses, Elizabeth, Maria, Martha, and Margaret (12). He was a laborer (12).
He attended the 1884 meeting of the 91st's Survivors' Association (2).
In 1890, he was living at 822 Mountain, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5, 6). Ulysses S G Crozier was also living there (6).
In 1900, he was living at 922 Mountain Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Maria, and children Ulysses, Maria, Margaret, and Gertrude (13). He was a capitalist (13).
In 1910, he was living at 1072 Tasker Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14). He was living with his wife Maria, children Ulysses and Gertrude, and daughter Elizabeth Thomass and her family (14). He was living on his own income (14).
He died on 14 April 1913, of cerebral apoplexy, with arteriosclerosis contributing, at 1438 Wolf Street, ward 26, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10, 15). He was married (15). He was a gentleman (that is, not working) (15). On 20 April 1913, he was buried, at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (15).
His widow, Maria Crozier, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 19 April 1913 (4, 10).
