During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 18 September 1861 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (3, 4). He served as a private in company C (1).

He was discharged at Washington, DC, on 8 January 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability, by order of General Martindale (1, 2, 4 [Alexandria VA]).

After the war

On 16 May 1883, his widow applied unsuccessfully for a pension (5)
