Lewis F Denslow

Before the war

He was born in Wayne County, Pennsylvania (3), probably to Amos and Susan Denslow (7). He was 25 years old when he enlisted in 1863 (3, 4, 7 [12 in 1850], 8 [22 in 1860]).

In 1850, he was living in Clinton Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania (7). He had attended school in the previous year (7).

In 1860, he was living in Clinton Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, probably with his parents (8). He was a saywer (8).

When he was enlisted, he was a laborer (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a brown complexion, gray eyes, and black hair (3).

During the war

He also served in company H of the 77th Pennsylvania Infantry, and in company D of the 77th Pennsylvania (2).

He was drafted (1, 4, 5). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 1 August 1863 in company D of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry, at Frankford, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4 [7 Aug], 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Frankford, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yardley (?) (3). He served in company H of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (5).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry to the 91st Pennsylvania, by special order 138, headquarters, Army of the Potomac (1 June 1865) (3). He served as a private in company A of the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

He was discharged on 1 July 1865 by general order (1, 2 [has 2 Jul], 3, 4 [special order, war dept], 9 [for disability]).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Flagg Township, Ogle County, Illinois (9). He was a farmer, with $500 in personal property (9). He was living with Adelia Denslow (presumably his wife), and Martin Denslow (10 months old, presumably their son) (9).

He applied successfully from Illinois for a pension on 3 January 1878 (2, 6).

He died on 26 February 1880 [?] at Lanabec [?] Iowa (2).
