James Devine

Before the war

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 5 November 1861 (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He served as a private in company B (1).

He was discharged on 10 May 1862 (5, 6 [8 months service], 7 [8 months service], 9 [8 months service]).

He was not on the muster-out roll when the regiment mustered out (1, 2).

After the war

On 17 November 1868, he successfully applied for a pension (3, 4).

On 7 June 1876, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (6, 7, 9). He was admitted from Pennsylvania (9).

In 1880, he was living at the National Military Home in Montgomery County, Ohio (8). He was a laborer, who had been out of work for 8 months in the previous year (8).

In 1882, he was present at the Central Branch of the National Soldiers Home (7). He had an injured right leg, and received a pension of $12 per month (7).

In 1883, he was present at the Southern Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (6). He had varicose veins (6). He received a pension of $14 per month (6).

In 1890, he was living in the Southern Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia (5). He reported one disability: an injury to his right leg (5, 9).

He died on 10 February 1905 (4, 9). He had been receiving a pension of $24 per month (9). He was at the Southern Branch of the National Home (9).
